WHO WE ARE
SJ Wilkes Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that individuals who rely on wheelchairs have access to safe, comfortable, and fully accessible living environments. Founded by Sharonda Johnson-Wilkes, whose personal experiences with housing discrimination underscored the dire need for more inclusive options, our foundation focuses on transitional housing, first-time homebuying support, and advocacy. Through tailored programs, partnerships, and community outreach, we strive to empower wheelchair users to live independently, free from the barriers and injustices they too often face.
WHAT WE DO
At the SJ Wilkes Foundation, we bridge critical gaps in accessible housing for individuals who rely on wheelchairs. Through our transitional housing program, we offer safe, short-term living solutions to those facing unsafe or unfair rental conditions. We also provide first-time homebuyer education, guiding people through mortgage options, accessible property search, and financial planning to help them secure a home of their own. Beyond housing, our advocacy and legal resources address systemic barriers and fight discrimination, ensuring wheelchair users can enjoy the independence and dignity they deserve.
